Berlin Fashion Week: Milk of Lime Makes Genuine Dressing Proposals Desirable

Milk of Lime celebrates their comeback on the runway with „Ashes" and pulls us back into their beautiful darkness.

Coffee in the attendants’ hands. Sunglasses everywhere. First show of day three at Berlin SS27 Fashion Week. It was already eleven o’clock. Still. The Hörsaalruine at the medical history museum  looked like everyone felt: slightly dazed but spruced up.

The light turns off and a gentle melody finds its way into the hall. A satin-mesh layered dress  walked past us. The colors: a, for the brand, well-known palette of brown-grey tones. Accessories: a  loose black leather multi-belt. The seams: unfinished. On purpose, of course. The duality of meaning  and interpretation plays a huge part in the collection. Fire and ash can empower or destroy us equally. The color palette of black, pale grey, dirty mauve, phosphoric red and blanched whites  suggests an underlying sadness, but why not judge it as comfort, protection or even power instead?

Freedom, Not Limitation

Long transparent mesh skirts, crinkled textured shirts, silky layering elements, roughly knit sweaters as well as soft leather tops and jackets resemble the caress that we needed this morning.  Even the thin silver chains hanging down like loose threads from necklaces or belts didn’t seem to hold or cage something, they rather floated.

Rural, nearly biblical printed elements augment the sensuality the looks transport and made us part  of a little morning fashion ritual.

Take Your Time

The designers draw their inspiration from the immediate power of natural materials, which form the  starting point of their designs. Structures and surfaces that they discover in our surroundings flow into collages of garments and artfully crafted objects.

What really stood out throughout the whole show: Nearly every look had an additional back-part story. It really paid off not to take our eyes off too quickly but to stay a little longer and admire the layered corsage-binding details, slit situations, different kinds of belt buckles, white prints and loose threads in every shape possible.

Milk of Lime didn’t try to come back as someone else and experiment with photogenic shapes or  textures. On the contrary. They rather searched within their familiar elements and elevated the very same into something that will hold a magic memory. Because: We are meant to wear the pieces we manufacture in our everyday life.
