Berlin Fashion Week: Clara Colette Miramon Sends Us into Her Mystic 2010s Fairytale

Clara Colette Miramon's SS27 collection "Humid" pulls us into a world full of untouched nature, humidity and mysterious womanhood.

It’s the last show of day three. Pouring rain. The whole industry squeezes under the covered  passageway in front of Acht Berlin, an architectural space in Mitte. While waiting for the entrance, some try not to burn others with their cigarettes; some try to choose between cucumber kombucha and prosecco. The choice of drinks was totally on theme, as we discovered later. The weather as well.

In the middle of the courtyard, a spiral path led us to the large glass atrium at the cellar level below  and into the world of the designer’s mind: condensation fogs the atrium glass, flowers press against  it, droplets run down the windows, and hand-drawn doodles in the mist recall tracing shapes on a  steamed-up car window in summer rain. The music starts. A childhood-inspired elephant print appears in the form of a t-shirt dress with a turquoise PVC collar and classic ballerinas. XXL pearl bracelets, a huge mint-green clamp earring, as well as multiple pastel colored clamps tucked in the model’s hair, showcase some of the main elements that run through the whole show.

The Next It-Girl Is Born

The humidity portrays not only a climatic condition but stands as a metaphor for growth, transformation, memory and desire. Clear PVC capes, transparent plastic details, shell-accessories and floral elements reinforce the themes of condensation and lush vegetation, whereas the chiffon garments, corsets (her speciality), lace-covered sweatsuits with puff sleeves, lingerie pieces, long acrylic nails and thong inspired denim constructions constitute femininity. What adds to it are the nostalgic parts: The elephant print, neon bras, bow-ties, sailor collars – and their own first-ever footwear offering, such as high peep-toe heels and classic ballet flats. All of this combined creates a modern mermaid image with 2010s sparkle that transforms you into the next it-girl.

A Siren's Call

Another positive note was the body diversity, which went missing in lots of shows before but not here. Because when speaking of womanhood and femininity, we have to include every body shape, otherwise it would be inauthentic, wouldn’t it?

So, the figures of mermaids and sirens embody a certain duality within the collection: innocence  and seduction, sweetness and danger, curiosity and power – it wasn’t just the music by Kin Amor that felt like a siren call, it was the whole atmospheric landscape of fantasy and reality and this specific image of womanhood Clara Colette Miramon drew – and we felt drawn into.
